Bitty Bow Post Earrings – Copper and Sterling

    June 13th, 2014
    Bitty Copper Handmade Bow Earrings

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

When in doubt, put a bow on it! Hand tied copper wire bows are securely soldered to recycled sterling silver posts, lightly hammered and then tumbled for several hours to add strength. The patina on the copper is “firescale” or oxidation which occurs when the flame of the torch creates oxides on the surface of the metal. This is lightly buffed with micro-crystalline museum wax. In time, the patina will deepen to a warmer brownish red. Backs of the bows are treated with professional jeweler’s lacquer.

Perfect for the kitsch lover, as a remembrance “Forget Me Knot”, or just a sweet little gift to yourself or someone else. These are super comfy, and look great in 2nd and third piercings!

Measures a bit under 1/2″, 1.27 cm wide. Sterling butterfly backs included.

Tribal Lace Hoop Earrings – Sterling and Copper Filigree

    June 13th, 2014
    IMG_0289

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

These large, bold beauties are hand forged using thick recycled sterling wire stock, given sterling self-locking hooks and posts, and 7 smooth wire filigree curls along the bottom for a lacey, somewhat tribal feel. I strongly believe in odd numbers in design, as some of the ancients did. While I don’t quite buy into the whole “even numbers bring bad luck” adage, I do think that odd numbers add interest and encourage the eye to wander a bit more.

These hoops are feminine yet rugged, versatile, and very comfortable!

Measures just under 2.5″, 6.35 cm in diameter.

Posts are standard 20g recycled sterling silver. If you’d like a thicker 18g instead, just ask in the “notes to merchant” upon checkout. No added charge!

Bollywood Bling Earrings – Sterling Sunstone Peridot and Smoky Quartz

    June 13th, 2014

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

Handmade from start to finish. For these earrings, I cut sterling sheet into squares, solder my own filigree wire shapes to the edges, and a single filigree teardrop and a copper curl to the front. 3 different color gemstones are then set by hand in sterling bezels: tiny grass green peridot, a deep coffee brown translucent smoky quartz, and one of my absolute favorites…the lusciously sparkly, peach colored Oregon sunstone. 3 more peridot stones are hung from the petals, and everything was oxidized to a deep charcoal, then selectively sanded. They are finally tumbled for several hours to strengthen the metal, as well as add shine. Add a light hand polishing and some of my heat formed sterling ear wires, et viola… Some really cool Bollywood-esque earrings just dripping with gems to twinkle lightly in the ear. Fun and colorful, but dark and mysterious all at once.

Measures approx. 1.25″, 3.175 cm from the top of the ear wire.

It Must Have Been the Roses Post Earrings – Vintage Brass and Sterling

    June 13th, 2014
    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

Sweet, petite little 8mm vintage brass rhinestone settings are transformed into lovely little layered post earrings in the form of roses. The posts are made of torch formed recycled sterling silver, available in white silver or oxidized to a deep charcoal. The backs are painted with a thin layer of professional jeweler’s lacquer to protect the skin. The rest of the flower is left in it’s “raw” state, so as to oxidize naturally with time and wear. A great gift for the nature lover or gardener, and those that love all things roses.

‘But he who dares not grasp the thorn should never crave the rose.’ – Anne Brontë

    Measures 8mm in diameter.

Please specify preferred finish for post/center of the flower. If no preference is made, I’ll just surprise you!

Neferneferuaten Earrings – Vintage Verdigris Patina Brass and 14k Goldfill

    June 13th, 2014
    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

Vintage brass tear drops with a stunning Egyptian motif were rescued from an absolutely nasty, grungy state of existence, and transformed into these gorgeous earrings – all it took was a little time and love! They were quite literally covered with a thick, crusty layer of verdigris…the weathered patina acquired over time and exposure to the elements.  I sanded most of it off to reveal the underlying design, allowing the yellow brass to peek out. The mottled, crusty green is complimented by bits of pink here and there, and the yellow color of the brass. They have been lightly buffed with clear micro-crystalline wax on the fronts to help preserve the finish, and hung them from my curled 14k goldfill ear wires. The backs have been left as is.

Measures approx. 2.5″ from the top of the ear wire.

Only 4 pairs made, and yes…I’m keeping one pair!

Considering the age, and the nature of verdigris patinas, each component is slightly different as far as coloring goes, but they are all splendid and gorgeous. Yay, vintage! Yay, verdigris!

From Wikipedia: “Neferneferuaten Nefertiti (ca. 1370 BC – ca. 1330 BC) was the Great Royal Wife (chief consort) of Akhenaten, an Egyptian Pharaoh. Nefertiti and her husband were known for a religious revolution, in which they worshiped one god only, Aten, or the sun disc. Akhenaten and Nefertiti were responsible for the creation of a whole new religion which changed the ways of religion within Egypt. With her husband, they reigned at what was arguably the wealthiest period of Ancient Egyptian history.[1] Some scholars believe that Nefertiti ruled briefly as Neferneferuaten after her husband’s death and before the accession of Tutankhamun, although this identification is a matter of ongoing debate.”

Nouveau Petal Post Earrings – Rare Vintage Brass and Sterling

    June 13th, 2014
    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

Increasingly rare vintage brass “gengerbread” petals are taken from what I believe to be pinwheel brooch elements and reborn here as delicate, but sturdy post earrings. These are solid, thick American made brass, and are becoming quite hard to find these days. The detail here is splendid, with it’s nouveau style curved veining. They are given recycled sterling silver posts, and a dark black-brown patina which I’ve partially removed to make the detail stand out. Both sides are coated with a professional jeweler’s lacquer to help preserve the finish.

Measures approx. 1/2″, 3.81 cm long.

All metal is repurposed vintage brass and recycled sterling silver. Sterling backs included.

Limited edition – only 10 pairs made….5 pairs left, and I’m keeping one for myself! ;)

Between the Dark and the Light Earrings – Sterling, Peridot and Bone

    June 12th, 2014

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

Recycled sterling silver wire is oxidized and wrapped to link together crisp green grass ethically sourced peridot gemstones, a handmade flattened loop, and a bead of vintage bone which has acquired a natural patina over the years. Lightweight, comfortable, and quite elegant. Also available in shiny, natural silver.

Measures approx. 1.25″, 31.75 cm from the top of the ear wire.
All metal is recycled, oxidized sterling silver. No toxic chemicals or newly mined ore is used in production. Sterling will tarnish over time, however. A light rub with a polishing cloth will help to enhance the metal’s inherent beauty, and it will therefore age gracefully with you.

Mossy Paths Earrings – Labradorite Sterling and Wood

    June 12th, 2014
    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

Earth tones and elemental materials unite in these strange, yet elegant drop earrings. I’ve mixed oxidized recycled sterling, copper, stone and wood for these beauties. Rustic mossy green faceted labradorite, full of it’s natural cracks and inclusions rest upon my handmade, oxidized “Secret Garden” leafy floral sterling headpins. Vintage wood and coconut beads and copper-wrapped gunmetal chain finish them off. Hung from my handmade sterling ear wires.

A small run – only a few pairs made. Due to the nature of all things made by hand (and Mother Nature!), please expect minor differences between the pair shown and the pair you receive.

Measures approx. 1.5″, 3.81 cm from the top of the ear wire.

Moderna Blade Earrings – Slate Pigmented Hand Cut Sterling

    June 12th, 2014
    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

    Handmade by Amber Yearwood

Modern, minimalist style scalloped blade earrings are drawn and cut by hand from flat recycled sterling silver sheet stock using my jeweler’s saw. The edges are filed smooth, then the lines are defined with a chisel. The shapes are gently dapped and given depth and form using traditional goldsmithing hand tools. Self-locking standard 20 gauge sterling ear wires are soldered along the top portion. Tumbled for several hours in steel shot and burnishing compound adds strength and shine. Color is then added with permanent pigmented slate blue micro-crystalline wax–both front and back. Some of the color is then scratched off to reveal the shiny silver beneath.

Measures approx. 2″, 5.08cm from the top of the ear wire.

    Available colors:

    Slate (shown)
    Rust
    Sandalwood
    Black
    Cream
    Verdigris (dark green patina)
    Patina (pale green patina)
African Gold (metallic gold w/ a greenish tint)
    Antique Gold

If you wish a color other than the slate blue as shown, please specify your preference  in the “notes to merchant” upon checkout.
