Graceful, and comfortable arabesque stylized earrings in hand-wrought recycled sterling silver featuring a 4mm deep red carnelian stone, and rugged-looking 24k gold casting grains*. Zarafet is elegance…
The motif and negative spaces are meticulously cut by hand using a jeweler’s saw and a very fine blade, then filed and sanded to remove the sharp edges. A sterling wire armature is then cut, formed, and soldered in place at the bottom along with 5 wee nuggets of 24k gold per earring. A length of slightly thicker sterling wire is flame-formed and soldered to the back of the shape, then wrapped and hammered flat, forming the bail. A sterling bezel is soldered to the “fleur” at the center, and the entire piece is thoroughly sanded and cleaned before tumbling in steel shot/pellets for added strength. The silver is oxidized, and selectively sanded, creating more contrast between the metals and creating an air of antiquity. The bezels are carefully packed with 24k gold foil before the stones are set, and all edges are burnished, adding a bit of twinkle to catch the light here and there. They swing from my own wrapped high-quality 14/20 gold-fill earwires which are hardened with my trusty planishing hammer. No split rings to come undone down the road, making these a true heirloom to last for many, many years.
Measures just under 2.75″, 6.985 cm from the top of the earwire.
All metal is recycled.
Due to the nature of handmade items, please expect some minor differences in size, shape, color of stone and finish. This makes each piece unique!
*Casting grains are made by pouring molten gold directly into a bucket of water to cool quickly. Depending upon the speed and distance between the crucible and the bucket when poured, the gold will change shape and size.
No chemical dips! Use a Sunshine or similar brand polishing cloth and a light hand to clean.
